What has been accomplished with my leadership?
- I have created a cohesive council, ending the many years of a polarized and ineffective councils
- I have lead council to be more accountable and transparent by returning to two council meetings a month with extended opportunities for ratepayer engagement such as our question period, live video streaming of important meetings and our numerous town hall meetings this term
- We have incorporated tighter fiscal management with a focus on “need to have” rather than “nice to have” needs of Springwater
- I re-established an economic working group to assist businesses to create local jobs
- We have reviewed development charges and establish creative ways to attract new business such as our Community Improvement Plan that has been used by a number of businesses since its inception
- We as a Township now are in total control of development, and not surprisingly, the development community know that and respect it and are now cooperating to a level never seen before. The intimidation and idle threats are gone
Professional Experience
My involvement with business, community groups and professional organizations along with teaching business at the college level has given me a great deal of knowledge that has been applied to the running of Springwater in a more effective manner. Before retiring, I was Executive Vice President of Business Development for global prerecorded media manufacturer Cinram International and helped it grow from just under $100,000,000 to over $750,000,000 during my tenure. Prior to that I was President of AP International one of Canada’s largest prerecorded media suppliers. I have also served as CEO, CAO and Managing Director for divisions of Baton Broadcasting and Cinram.
Community Involvement
I served 5 years on the Springwater Committee of Adjustment and was chair for the last two years of that tenure. I served as Chair of the Grenfel Recreation Service Board and spearheaded many of the local improvements such as the Pavilion and Rink project working with the many volunteers. I am well versed in all aspects of how Springwater operates.
