About me

I am Bill French

bill-french

I was raised on a farm in Flos and have spent most of my years in Simcoe County. The Stone side of my family tree in Springwater traces its roots back to the 1800’s or at least 7 generations. I am quite familiar with the unique communities in Springwater and spent a lot of time in Elmvale, Phelpston, Fergusonvale and Anten Mills in my younger years. Springwater’s life blood comes from these unique communities. I lived in Elmvale in the early 70’s and have lived in Grenfel for the last 21 years on a small 10 acre farm. My wife Lorraine and I have been gifted with 5 children and to date 11 grandchildren who love the rural landscape of Springwater and enjoy the fresh air when visiting. I want to be a good ancestor and ensure many generations will be able to experience this unique lifestyle.

My involvement with business, community groups and professional organizations along with teaching business at the college level has given me a great deal of knowledge that can be applied to the running of Springwater in a more effective manner. Before retiring, I was Executive Vice President of Business Development for global prerecorded media manufacturer Cinram International and helped it grow from just under $100,000,000 to over $750,000,000 during my tenure. Prior to that I was President of AP International one of Canada’s largest prerecorded media suppliers. I have also served as CEO, CAO and Managing Director for divisions of Baton Broadcasting and Cinram.

I served 5 years on the Springwater Committee of Adjustment and was chair for the last two years of that tenure. I served as Chair of the Grenfel Recreation Service Board and spearheaded many of the local improvements such as the Pavilion and Rink project working with the many volunteers. I am well versed in all aspects of how Springwater operates.
I have definitely enjoyed my last 4 years as Mayor of Springwater and we as a progressive and cohesive Council have accomplished a lot by being open, transparent and fiscally responsible. I ask that you allow me the privilege of leading for another 4 years and complete the tasks I set out to do.

Re-Elect Bill French for Mayor on October 22
